Timber!
The tree was down and we were off to the Shawnee Wal-Mart and Earl May to get our supplies! At Wal-Mart we purchased 24 bricks to go around our tree and a couple bags of potting soil. At Earl May we picked up an 8 lb bag of Marvel Blend grass seed for the bare spot that once housed the contractor’s tree. You know Josh, aka yard nazi, his yard, specifically his grass, needs to look good at all times which means putting grass seed down. Yes, I know Earl May is kinda pricey, but we like the blend of grass the previous owners put down so we wanted to be consistent. Here is where our plans went to hell! As we talked we decided to go ahead and yank the monster bush on the south side of the house and lay bricks there also. Well this meant buying more bricks, purchasing more soil and mulch, and finding new plants. I could just see how damn costly this "simple" landscaping project had become. So we hit up Bonner's Wal-Mart and bought the last 26 bricks they had. But of course they did not have any mulch! So back down 7 hwy to the Grass Pad for mulch. Ok the best part.... did I mention that my husband brought home the '93 from the Tongie farm?! The '93 is a 1993 white dodge truck that I hate! The thing has exhaust that runs up out of the truck bed and the lining is falling down from the ceiling, it smells funny, rides like you are sitting on a bed and someone is jumping up and down next to you. This truck is a monster! And we are trucking all over god’s creation in this thing. BTW Josh knows I despise the '93, but for some damn reason he loves driving the thing. Oh, and it is loud as hell! Ok, so back to the story. We finally get home and start our project. First we decided to lay the bricks around the tree. (Side note: Our neighborhood is very friendly, our neighbors are always outside.) About 40 minutes into our project our neighbor Lucas yells "You guys have been going at that for about 40 minutes now and you aren't yelling, fighting, or pissed off at each other!? I am impressed." I replied "We been together over eight years, we each know our roles in the relationship. For projects like this I assist and give my opinion." Lucas just laughed.

Yes, I was working too! Weeding around our water meter so we could put grass seed down. Water meter story! I insisited that the water company come cut our pipe down to make it flush with our lawn like everyone elses on the block! They of course tore up some grass.
This is the monster bush to the south side of our house. I took the tree trimmers to it so Josh could find the root to dig up. It was much bigger before this picture was taken and I got ahold of it with the tree trimmers.

Alright story time! Ok if you have done your math through out this entry you will have read that I only mention picking up 50 bricks, but the title says 75. Hmmm.... well right before this picture and after the previous one we ran out of bricks! We truly underestimated the number we would need by 25! So at 7:00 at night we head to the Shawnee Wal-Mart, remember we bought all that the Bonner Wal-Mart had earlier that day. So we get there and tell the lawn and garden chic we need 25 more bricks. She rings us up at the lawn and garden register and we head out to get the bricks. This lady looks at me and says she is only carrying one brick at a time and that some guy has the manual pallet lift. (side note: by this time I was starting to crash! I had been working outside all day and it was a warm day! Digging up grass, hauling those damn bricks, and assisting my husband. We had not had dinner and lunch wore off many hours ago. I was cranky and ready to be done with landscaping!) (BEGIN THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD): So this lady is telling me she is going to haul them one at a time! Hell no! No one is carrying any bricks, especially me and Josh. We have been carrying them across our yard all day. Shit if I am doing it at Wal-Mart! When we bought bricks earlier today we, as in Josh, loaded them off a forklift that brought them right to the truck bed. (END OF THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD) I tell the lady that we have been hauling these things all and to please page that guy who had the pallet lift. After several minutes of waiting he showed up with it, but of course it didn't work. So he went and got the forklift and brought the pallet over to Josh's truck. We left Wal-Mart! Damn I hate that place!

Monday morning Josh got up and went out to the Tongie farm and got a trailer load of "dirt". When he started shoveling the dirt into our flower bed, I noticed it was steaming?! I said "Josh why is the dirt steaming?" He said "I dug to the bottom of the pile to get the good stuff!"

The finished product! The green tree is Josh's little buddy! Seriously. He kept saying lets see how my little buddy looks or where should we plant my little buddy. Oh, and when it came time to plant the tree and mums, well lets just say I couldn't not bring myself to dig in the "dirt" even with gloves on. It was grossing me out!
I planted pink tulips in this flower bed! Can't wait to see them next spring!
